Zac: We had barely moved in when Grandpa set to work finding himself a new job. If working's your thing, dude, that's cool with me.

Zac: But then he told me I should get a job, too! Dude! Like I don't have better things to do. Like get chicks. (The girl next door? Smokin'!)

Zac: So we both go off to work in this beat-up old car (our jobs were at the same time, so we carpooled), and get this: I got promoted. First day on the job, and I get a promotion. Did Grandpa get a promotion? Didn't think so.

Zac: Then at dinner he has the nerve to lecture me about school.
Joshua: I know your parents let you slip by with Cs and Ds, but this is my house and I expect straight As.
Zac: Dude! Are you criticizing the way my parents raised me?
Joshua: I would never criticize your late parents-
Zac: Don't call them that!
Joshua: Call them what?
Zac: Call them late! Like they're just stuck in traffic or something. They're dead, and you're never going to replace them. So stop trying.

Zac: I was so ticked off after that that I went and worked out to burn off some steam. Not long after Grandpa comes over and sets up an easle. Right next to the TV. Like he didn't get the message that I didn't want to be around him.
I can't wait until I'm old enough to be off on my own.

"The girl next door?" Is he talking about Emily, by any chance? ;]

Kaylin- You're right about both: Zac's parents just died, so he's definitely going to be getting into a lot of trouble as he tries to find closure. And the girl next door was refering to Emily. :]
